All care services are designed and coordinated around your specific requirements. Our local care teams support people with complex conditions or those only needing a little extra help at home.
This individualised care and person-centred approach ensures you receive the highest level of care completely tailored to your needs; a service that is flexible, timely, reliable and meets ongoing needs in the least restrictive way.
We are committed to create and maintain an environment that respects diverse traditions and acceptance of others without bias based on differences of any kind. Adelaide Supportive Care ‘ASC’ will endeavour to ensure that each person’s age, sex, cultural and religious background is considered when planning and providing services.
Our goal is for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and people with dementia and the financially disadvantaged to have their needs met by NASC workers in a manner that recognises and respects their culture, language and distinct needs.
WHAT IS PERSONAL CARE?
For clients requiring physical assistance, personal care includes all services such as eating, bathing, toileting, dressing, grooming, getting in and out of bed and mobility, etc.
You can be assured that all NASC carers are trained, qualified and understand how to interact safely during personal care. However, there is more to providing quality personal care than safety alone.
ADDITIONAL SPECIALISED SERVICES WE PROVIDE
- Medication administration
- Nutrition and medication via Gastrostomy (PEG feed)
- Colostomy care
- Catheter care
The delivery of high quality care to all clients is paramount to NASC. Every effort is made to match our clients with suitably qualified Carers who are professional, dependable and reliable.
“I WANT TO DO IT ALL MYSELF”
We can all relate to those words, first heard from young children as they savour their newfound ability to function independently. Clearly that sense of wanting to be independent and self-reliant doesn’t go away with disability or as we get older. The process of helping people retain their dignity and self-worth as their care needs increase is a delicate walk.
At NASC, we recognise that no matter the situation or age, there is a strong desire to be able to continue to manage one’s own personal care, particularly in the areas of bathing, toileting, dressing and grooming. Family members may also struggle when confronted with the need to step in and assist a loved one with, or perform tasks related to personal hygiene. Understanding the sensitivity around privacy and modesty is the first step in successfully assisting with personal care.
Our personal care staff are hired based on their experience, knowledge and ability to demonstrate sensitivity and empathy with our clients. An in-depth interview by our managers prior to hire, consists of several “situational” questions and helps to assure that our personal care staff are well-suited for their work in the home.
A TEAM APPROACH
Our approach to personal care services is to encourage self-care to the extent possible by providing guidance, cueing and assistance at the minimal level required. The goal is for clients to continue to perform as many of their personal care tasks as possible, with caring assistance. Patience and encouragement to complete personal care are key to a successful relationship between client and caregiver.
